The Secret

When Sound Found Another Path.

Long before wireless audio, early thinkers understood that vibration could carry sound through the bones of the skull. The concept of internal sound pathways traces all the way back to Aristotle, but it was 16th-century Italian physician Girolamo Cardano who first documented the actual mechanics—discovering that a rod held between the teeth could transmit sound directly to the inner ear.

Centuries later, as Ludwig van Beethoven’s hearing deteriorated, he famously put this science into practice. Historical accounts describe the composer placing one end of a wooden rod against his piano and holding the other between his teeth. Vibrations from the instrument traveled through his jawbone, giving him another way to experience the music.

The physics haven't changed. The gear has.

Modern bone-conduction headphones replace the wooden rod with compact transducers. OPN Sound sends subtle vibrations through the cheekbones toward the inner ear, leaving your ear canals completely open to the world around you.
